For a fresh take on a burger, give these turkey burgers a try!

These delicious burgers can be made traditionally, as sliders or served on romaine or Bibb lettuce for a low-carb option. The pan-seared apple slices paired with BBQ sauce provide the perfect flavor to complement these deliciously baked burgers.

Can I prep these ahead?

Yes, follow the prep instructions (stop just before baking). Stack each burger between parchment paper, store in an airtight container and refrigerate overnight. Remove from fridge and cook.

Can I freeze the turkey burger patties?

Yep, cooked or uncooked, these burgers freeze well for up to 3 months.

  • Freezing cooked patties: Remove cooked patties from heat, prior to adding cheese. Allow to cool completely and freeze in an airtight container for a quick and easy dinner in the future. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat cooked burgers to your liking.
  • Freezing raw patties: Stack each burger between parchment paper and freeze in an airtight container.

Ways to reinvent your leftovers:

  • In a grilled wrap with pickles, sprouts, mustard and Swiss
  • On Taco Tuesday—just crumble the leftover burger meat in tacos, a quesadilla or on a taco salad
  • Mixed in with shell pasta, a little cheddar and cottage cheese for a savory side dish
  • In FfL’s California Burger Bowl
  • In a stuffed pepper
  • Mixed in with scrambled eggs (add crumbled meat and salsa just before the eggs are completely cooked) and serve with avocado toast for a well-rounded breakfast
  • Crumbled on top of a BBQ and cheese bagel pizza

Description

For a fresh take on a burger, give these turkey burgers a try! These delicious burgers can be made traditionally, as sliders or even served on romaine leaves for a low-carb option. The pan-seared apple slices paired with BBQ sauce provides the perfect flavor to complement these deliciously baked burgers.

Ingredients

Scale

Turkey Burgers:

Toppings:

  • 1/4 teaspoon butter (to grease pan)
  • 1 large apple, thinly sliced (into round slices)
  • 4 small slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. (These can also be cooked on a grill).
  2. Combine turkey burger ingredients (except buns) in a medium bowl. Divide and shape burger mixture into 4 (4-inch) patties. Arrange patties on a greased or a parchment paper lined baking tray. Bake 5-9 minutes on each side, until burgers are golden brown and cooked through. (Internal temperature should reach 165 degrees F.) Top each burger with a slice of cheddar cheese approximately 1 minute before done.
  3. While burgers are cooking, add butter to a medium-large pan. Over medium heat, pan sear each side of apple slices (approximately 2 minutes per side).
  4. Remove burgers from oven and plate each burger on a bun. Top burgers with apple and BBQ sauce. For a low-carb option, use half a bun and enjoy it as an open-faced sammy.

Notes

Paleo/Dairy-free: Substitute butter with coconut oil and eliminate the cheese.

Always check for FfL-friendly ingredients.

We recommend organic ingredients when feasible.
