Muesli is a nutritious and delicious breakfast cereal. Many years ago, I was served muesli at a beautiful bed and breakfast. I enjoyed it so much, I was inspired to make my own combo of the delicious cereal.
You can get creative and use any type of dried fruit or nuts you desire! Muesli is wonderful when served in a bowl with milk or yogurt and fresh berries or sliced fruit.
If you want a great grab-and-go breakfast, mix your muesli with milk the night before and place it in an airtight container. The next morning, snag a spoon, your muesli and head out the door with a healthy, quick and easy breakfast!
Homemade Muesli with Milk and Fresh Fruit (Hot or Cold Cereal)
If you’re looking for a great grab-and-go breakfast, or something healthier than boxed of cereal, try this Homemade Muesli. It can be made ahead with ingredients you probably already have on hand, and best of all, there’s no cooking required. Have fun and be creative with the dried fruits and nuts you choose. It’s not only easy, it’s highly nutritious, filling and affordable!
Muesli Mix: (make ahead)
In a large bowl combine and mix dried fruit, nuts, and seeds. If necessary, chop almonds in a food processor prior to mixing. Store muesli in an airtight container. Store at room temperature or in the fridge.
When Serving: (cold, hot or with yogurt)
When serving, combine 1/4 cup of the muesli mix with 1/4 cup oats.
Have it cold: For cold cereal, add 1/4 cup muesli to 1/2 cup of milk in a large bowl. Allow muesli to stand for 8-10 minutes to soften the oats before eating OR place in the fridge overnight and eat in the morning.
Have it hot: For hot cereal, add 1/4 cup muesli to 1/2 cup of water or milk in a large bowl. Microwave on high for 1-3 minutes, depending on intensity of your microwave. Stir after 1 minute and microwave an additional 1-2 minutes, if necessary.
Have it with yogurt: If serving with yogurt, add 1/4 cup muesli to 1/2 cup of yogurt in a large bowl. Allow muesli to stand for 8-10 minutes to soften the oats before eating OR place in the fridge overnight and eat in the morning.
Drizzle a teaspoon of honey over prepared muesli for added sweetness or get a little creative and add fresh fruit, cinnamon or, our personal favorite, coconut flakes.
