Mocha Breakfast Smoothie

This mocha breakfast smoothie is especially cool and refreshing on a warm sunny day.

The chocolaty banana flavor with a hint of coffee and vanilla will perk up your taste buds while satisfying your caffeine fix.

It all started with a monkey named Slippery.

This delicious recipe is a one-off from our favorite Coffee and Kahlua Dessert Drink and Cocktail (Our Slippery Monkey). Since I (Kalie) am pregnant and can’t have rum, we decided to make a Mocha Breakfast Smoothie that can be enjoyed just like the Slippery Monkey – but for breakfast. Since “Slippery” is too darn cute to miss, we’ll share his story incase you missed it!

Years ago my parents were walking through the airport and came across an obnoxiously cute monkey that doubled as a stuffed animal and puppet. They couldn’t help themselves from splurging on this curious looking little creature. Since then, they haven’t traveled without him.

They keep track of his travels by marking his little t-shirt with their latest location and snap fun photos with him. BTW, they named him “Slippery” the monkey. No idea why, but he’s become quite the hit every time we travel.

A few years ago, we went to Aruba and had an iced drink. Since Slippery was there hanging at the pool bar with us, we referred to the delicious concoction as the “Slippery Monkey.” Think of a chocolaty banana smoothie with a hint of coffee and delicious dark rum! When we returned, we couldn’t help but come up with our own, healthier version of the cocktail.

Since I currently have a bun in the oven, we’ve decided to concoct a non-alcoholic version that tastes equally as delicious but features a Mocha twist!

Sipping on your Mocha Smoothie for dessert?

Top it with freshly shaved chocolate or Homemade Whipped Cream, Ohhhh, so good!

Instructions

  1. In a high-powered blender, combine ingredients; blend until smooth. (For a sweeter version, add 1 teaspoon coconut palm sugar.)
  2. Top with a drizzle of your favorite nut butter. Serve immediately. (*NutriBullet has great high-powered multi-use blenders.)

Notes

Caffeine-free: For a decaffeinated version, use caffeine-free coffee.

We recommend organic ingredients when feasible.
